It has been a wild, few weeks of not blogging. With the Artie Awards all done and won, the season has been slow, and I started my much needed break... sort of. I've been working on my line up for next season, with auditions (both going to, and help running some), sending emails, creating posts and overall becoming and just working on staying immersed and relevant in a cormmunitity that lies mostly dormant in the summer time.
This upcoming season I have a few shows that I know for sure I will be working on and participating in, along with a few that I am still working out the kinks to see if my overall schedule will permit me. Sometimes the behind the scene works of this life is just as chaotic as what regular patrons see on stage.
I also have excited news, that I have joined the ranks of First Look Buffalo as their Marketing Manager. In my day job, I am the social media and marketing coordinator for a really great company called Buffalo Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, so I do have quite a bit of experience with social media. It has most certainly given me reason and time to still work on theatre things in my off season.
As for my line up, I will be, so far performing in three shows, with three unique companies: The Opera-Lytes, American Repertory Theatre of WNY and Bellissima Productions. Yes, I'm coming back on the stage this season, something that I have missed and am very excited to get back too! I have performed with Bellissima Productions in the past, which was a really wonderful experience. Bellissima always puts on a great show. I have directed and stage managed for ART of WNY many times before, and theres a reason I keep coming back - It's the free cheese (I'm only kidding, Matt, I swear!!). I hav not worked with the Opera-Lytes before, but everyone at the auditions were really kind and seemed like a fun group, so I am excited to be a part of their show as well!
As for non- performing positions next season, I will be (hopefully) working with First Look Buffalo and American Repertory Theatre of WNY, mainly with stage managing some of their productions. Trying to fit in and make sure that the rehearsal schedules and performance schedules of these shows won't either 1. overlap too much and create conflicts, or 2. if they do overlap, there is transparency and honest, open communication involved with all parties.
I must urge you, of course, to check out all of these companies that I have mentioned above, as they are are all wonderful smaller companies working to enrich the culture and promote the arts in our Buffalo Community. If you are a performer or techie yourself, what shows will you be working on? If you are a patron or theatre lover, what shows from what companies are you most interested in seeing this season? Please let me know, and let's promote it!
